Sicily Comes to Borrowdale: and it’s 9.000£ raised for charity!!!!
Barclays Bank Pensioner Malcolm Busby organised a Charity Wine Dinner at The Borrowdale Hotel on behalf of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland. The five course dinner of traditional Sicilian food, including Tuna Bottarga and Cannoli Siciliana, was expertly cooked and presented by the Hotel’s Head Chef, Sebastien Gillie.
Alexandra travelled especially from Marsala, Sicily to present six wines from her family’s winery, Curatolo Arini, established in 1875, and now run by the fifth generation of Curatolos making it the oldest family-owned Marsala producing business. Everyone enjoyed a new experience of drinking Marsala Superiore Secco, Riserva and Dolce. There were also three Sicilian grape varieties of non fortified wine, Grillo, Inzolia and the excellent red wine made from the oldest grape variety in Sicily, Nero D’Avola. These wines perfectly complimented Sebastien’s food and the evening was enhanced by Alexandra’s superb presentation and knowledge of Sicilian wine and food.
Malcolm thanked Barclays Bank for their contribution of £750. Barclays supports employee and pensioner fundraising as part of its Community Investment programme. Funds raised at the dinner were further boosted by a generous contribution from Brewin Dolphin, Penrith, and from 85 attendees at the dinner.
The winner of the magnum of champagne given by Kit Graves was Brian Fulton, presented to him by Stephen Wilcock, The Borrowdale’s General Manager.
